Description

New Orleans. Masonic Temple.

This was the second Masonic Temple Building at St. Charles and Perdido Streets, designed by James Freret, built 1891-1892. Demolished in 1926.

Notes: St. Charles Street runs lower right with streetcar tracks, Perdido Street is at left.

At corner ground floor is shop of H.A. Testard, selling bicycles and automobiles. Automobile section of window notes they sell "Hartford" and "Cadillac". (Hartford bicycles, Pope-Hartford automobiles, or both?) Also automobile accessories and sundries. A Cadillac auto is seen parked out front. Back on Perdido Street at left, other period autos are parked. Signage is seen includes for "Kracke & Flanders Paints and Varnishes", "Crescent Electric Co", "Wm A Kennedy Steam & Dry Cleaning Works", "Art Glass & Glass Mosaics". At right on St Charles an awning over a shop reads "New York Trunk Store - 335 - Trunks & Leather Goods - Wholesale. Retail." Further right is a sign on the sidewalk for "United States Army Recruiting Station". On balcony railing upstairs are signs for Lawyers.
