New Orleans Mardi Gras street costumers, 1919

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Mardi Gras in New Orleans, 1919: Group of 6 street revelers in costumes and masks. An automobile is behind them. To the right is a streetcar with people in street clothes boarding.

Notes: Official parades and public festivities for the 1919 New Orleans Mardi Gras season had been canceled due to World War I. The War was at armistice by Carnival. The "Spanish Flu" epidemic still lingered on, so large crowds were discouraged. However some individuals and informal groups of celebrants marked the holiday in the city streets.
Location is likely Canal Street.
