d Caroline Robertson (Symmes) Osgood; wasborn in Ashmont, Mass., June 22, 1891. He graduated from theArlington High School, where he made a record in athletics as amember of the track team and captain of the hockey team in 1912.For 5 years he was a member of the Boston Athletic Associationhockey team. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves, 2d Naval Dis-trict, at Newport, R.I., April, 1917, and was assigned duty onS.P. 428 Mystery (submarine-chaser), during the summer of 1917.He was transferred to Naval Aviation, and entered the GroundSchool, M.I.T., Oct. 30, 1917. On completing the course there, hewas ordered to Pensacola, Fla., Jan. 19, 1918. He qualified asGunnery Pilot in the U.S. Naval Flying Corps, and made an alti-tude record flight of 13,200 feet in the heavy-type bombing-planeH-12. Was commissioned Ensign, March 28, 1918. He was held atPensacola as Instructor, and then as Division and Squadron Com-mander. From July, 1918, to Jan., 1919, four times recommendedfor promotion. ( 452 )

JOHN MORSE ELLIOT Second Lieutenant, A.S.A., U.S.A.Son of Dr. John Wheelock and Mary Lee (Morse) Elliot; was bornin Boston, Nov. 5, 1891. He was educated at the Noble and Green-ough School, Boston, Middlesex School, and at Harvard College.Previous to enlistment he trained with Battery A, M.V.M., for ayear and a half. He attended the 1st Plattsburg Business MensTraining Camp in 1915, and the 2d Officers Training Camp atPlattsburg in 1917. He enlisted in Boston in Jan., 1918, in the Avi-ation Service; was sent for training to Camp Dick, Dallas, Tex.;to Austin, Tex., S.M.A.; to Fortress Monroe, Va., Aerial Observa-tion School; and later to Langley Field, Hampton, Va. He was com-missioned 2d Lieut. Jan. 24, 1919, A.S.A., U.S.A. He was honor-ably discharged at Langley Field, Hampton, Va., on Jan. 27,1919. GARDNER DUNTON Second Lieutenant, A.S.A., U.S.A.
