ssoudun, France, when the Armistice was signed. (Por-trait on opposite page.) DWIGHT FLETCHER BARNES Second Lieutenant, A.S., U.S.A. Son of J. Fletcher and Anna E. (Baldwin) Barnes, of Bedford,Mass.; was born at Hubbardston, JMass., Jan. 23, 1890. He waseducated at Mt. Hermon School, Mass., and at the Mass. Agricul-tural College, Amherst. He enlisted, Nov. 3, 1917, and attended the M.I.T. GroundSchool; going from there to Cornell University. He trained in flyingat Gerstner Field, Lake Charles, La.; and had advanced trainingat Call Field, Wichita Falls, Tex.; at Wilbur Wright Field, Day-ton, Ohio; at Post Field, Fort Sill, Okla.; and at TaliaferroField, Fort Worth, Tex. He was commissioned 2d Lieut., May 14, 1918. He sailed for France, and was stationed at Issoudun for finaltraining. He was attached to the 186th Aero Squadron, 1st ArmyObservation Group. After the signing of the Armistice he was sentinto Germany with the 3d Army of Occupation. Married, Dec. 23, 1916, Mary Baker. ( 258 )
Text Appearing After Image:
HAROLD ARTEMAS PACKARD First Lieutenant, A.S., U.S.A. Son of Frederick C. and Mary (Winchester) Packard; was bornat Roslindale, Mass., Aug. 10, 1894. He graduated from the BostonLatin School, and from Harvard College (with honors) in 1915. Heenlisted in the U.S.A. in April, 1917, and was sent to FortMonroe, Va., and commissioned 2d Lieut, (provisionally), onOct. 26, 1917. In Jan., 1918, he was commissioned 2d Lieut., andin March, 1st Lieut. He volunteered for the Air Service in May,1918, and trained at Langley Field, Old Point Comfort, Va., andat Selfridge Field, Mt. Clemens, Mich. On Sept. 1 he was orderedoverseas, and continued his training at Tours, France; he was laterattached to the 88th Squadron, and ordered to the front just at thetime of the signing of the Armistice. Lieut. Packard was then as-signed to the Army of Occupation. Subsequently he spent threemonths at the University of Poitiers, France, after which heserved in the Department of Rents, Requisition, and Claims.Lieut.
