vice — A. Vernon Macaulay, 2d Lieut., A.S., U.S.A. A. VERNON MACAULAY Second Lieutenant, A.S., U.S.A.Born at Beverly, Mass., April 4, 1891. He graduated from theBeverly High School, and was engaged in business with theUnited Shoe Machinery Co., when the U.S. entered the war. Heenlisted at Boston, Mass., July 15, 1917, in the Aviation Section,U.S.A. He attended the M.I.T. Ground School from Oct. 15 toJan. 1, 1918, when he was transferred to the School of MilitaryAeronautics at Princeton, N.J. On Feb. 2, 1918, he was sent toDallas, Tex., for some weeks, continuing his training at ChanuteField, Rantoul, 111., where he qualified as a Pursuit Pilot, and wascommissioned 2d Lieut, on June 8, 1918. Lieut. Macaulay was sentto Dallas, Tex., where he took a course in Aerial Navigation, andthen to Dayton, Ohio. He received overseas orders, and arrived inFrance, Oct. 10,1918. WILLIAM PLATT Ensign, U.S.N.R.F. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Piatt; was born at New York City,Feb. 6, 1897. He was educated at St. Marks School, Southboro,Mass., and at Harvard College, class of 1919. At St. Marks he wascaptain of the football and hockey teams. At Harvard he was amember of the freshman football and hockey teams. He attended the Plattsburg Training Camps in 1915 and 1916.On March 16, 1917, he enlisted in the U.S.N.R.F. at the Charles-town Navy Yard, Charlestown, Mass. He was trained successivelyat the Naval Air Stations at Hampton Roads, Va., Pensacola, Fla.,Marine Field, Miami, Fla.; and was stationed at the Naval AirStation, Anacostia, D.C., until he sailed overseas, on Aug. 24, 1918.In France he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Stations atMoutchic-Lacanau, and at Brest.
