| Description |
Nevada gilia, Gilia brecciarum subsp. brecciarum, Nevada, White Mountains, Sugarloaf, Pinchot Creek - Columbus Salt Marsh watershed, elevation 2664 m (8740 ft). This relatively distinctive gilia is distinguished by its combination of widely divergent branches ending in crowded groups of few small flowers that are sessile or short-stalked, densely glandular calyces and branches, and middle leaves clasping the stem at bases. It is common in its range centered in the Great Basin of Nevada and adjacent edges, and extending southwest along the west edge of the Mojave Desert and adjacent mountains in California. In the Great Basin, like here, it is often found on clay soils in the valleys and lower mountains. As is often the case in the White Mountains, it seems to reach its upper elevation limit here. |
