Description |
Oswald House, Durham. Built in about 1800 for John Richardby, a London merchant. Sold in 1806 to Thomas Wilkinson of Brancepeth, a former mayor of Durham. Sold again in 1828 to Wilkinson's cousin Rev Percival Spearman Wilkinson of Belmont, who had architect Phillip Wyatt convert the house into a full-scale mansion, Mount Oswald. The house has been the home of Durham City Golf Club since 1928, but (as of 2014) there are proposals to redevelop the site for housing. [1] |
