o be of all-round use, must be arranged sothat it may be pointed directly downward or upward.A picture of a strider that I once used was madewith the camera pointing almost straight down. Ihad been asked to make a picture that would showthe insect and his peculiar shadow. After tryingmany times and without success to secure such apicture while the insects were in a small stream, Ifinally had to catch some of the lively little creatures, and put them in a white-lined box with about aninch of water. In this way it was easy enough tomake the photographs of both insect and shadow. Photographs of some varieties of wasps make in-teresting pictures, as with little difficulty they maybe portrayed while at work building their mud houseor delicate hanging comb. These are but suggestionsof the endless subjects possible in insect photography. To go into the subject at all thoroughly would entailwriting a book on entomology, and the writer hasneither the ability nor the desire to attempt such awork.

Until quite recently lish photography was almostuntrodden ground. Few had attempted it, and fewerstill had succeeded. The new interest in natural-history subjects, with its absolute demand for * photo-graphs from life, has led, after touching on almostevery other branch of work, to the photographingof fish, and almost every month we hear of someperson taking it up. Though not so interesting asbird and animal work, it has, nevertheless, many pointsof interest, and, like all other nature photography, itteaches us a great deal that hitherto has never evenbeen thoug
