Description

Γέννηση του Χριστού δεύτερο μισό του 15ου αιώνα, 78x96εκ. άγνωστος μεταβυζαντινός ζωγράφος από την Κρήτη

Στο κέντρο της σύνθεσης εικονίζεται η Παναγία ξαπλωμένη έξω από το σπήλαιο της Γέννησης, ο μικρός χριστός στη φάτνη και τα ζώα που τον ζεσταίνουν με τις ανάσες τους. Γύρω από το κεντρικό θέμα εικονίζονται τα δευτερεύοντα επεισόδια της αφήγησης του ευαγγελίου και των αποκρύφων ευαγγελίων, όπως το Λουτρό του Βρέφους, η συνομιλία του Ιωσήφ με τους βοσκούς, η άφιξη των Μάγων, η αναγγελία στους ποιμένες και η δοξολογία των αγγέλων. Ο λαγός και το ελάφι στο πρώτο επίπεδο είναι στοιχεία από την τέχνη της Αναγέννησης.
