Italiano: Il 7 ottobre 1943, verso le ore 12:00 a Napoli ci fu un massacro. I nazisti tedeschi, cacciati da Napoli il 1° ottobre dalla popolazione, piazzarono (responsabile fu la 3° Compagnia del 60° Battaglione Motorizzato Pionieri dell'Esercito tedesco) alcune mine ad alto potenziale ad orologeria nel Palazzo della Posta Centrale (nella parte Ovest dell'edificio... quello verso l'attuale Piazza Carità), dietro un falso muro sapientemente progettato nel seminterrato. Ci fu un tremendo scoppio... un massacro! I feriti furono 84 ed i morti furono 30. Tra i morti ci furono anche dei soldati statunitensi dei 2nd Army / Base Post Office e di Unità della Compagnia Servizi del 505th PIR Parachute Infantry Regiment dell'82nd Airborne Division dell'US Army, Divisione che aveva il proprio Comando a circa 300 metri nei locali della Questura. Il Palazzo delle Poste era stato preventivamente ispezionato dal 111th Engineer Regiment dell'US Army che lo ritenne sicuro. Il Tenente Sinclair del 43rd Bomb Disposal Section R.E. dell'US Army riferì che il complessivo dell'esplosivo doveva essere di circa 2000 libbre = oltre 900 kg e che nelle macerie furono trovati anche i resti dei governali di una bomba d'aereo tedesca da 250 kg. |

The country of origin of this photograph is Italy. It is in the public domain there because its copyright term has expired. According to Law for the Protection of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights n.633, 22 April 1941 and later revisions, images of people or of aspects, elements and facts of natural or social life, obtained with photographic process or with an analogue one, including reproductions of figurative art and film frames of film stocks (Art. 87) are protected for a period of 20 years from creation (Art. 92). This provision shall not apply to photographs of writings, documents, business papers, material objects, technical drawings and similar products (Art. 87). Italian law makes an important distinction between "works of photographic art" and "simple photographs" (Art. 2, § 7). Photographs that are "intellectual work with creative characteristics" are protected for 70 years after the author's death (Art. 32 bis), whereas simple photographs are protected for a period of 20 years from creation.
