Summary[edit]

Description

With NSF support, the U.S. National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL) provides safe and secure storage and curation of ice cores recovered by researchers from the Earth’s polar regions. The facility, located in the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, Colo., enables scientists to study the cores and learn about the Earth’s climate history without having to travel to remote field sites. The temperature in the lab’s main archive freezer is held at minus 36 degrees Celsius (minus 32.8 degrees Fahrenheit), ensuring the long-term preservation of the cores. Find out more about the NICL in the episode of Science Nation at www.nsf.gov/news/special_reports/science_nation/icecorela... .
