Description Stamp of Nicaragua; 1989; aimail stamp stamp of the issue "200th Anniversary of the French Revolution - International stamp exhibition 'PHILEXFRANCE '89' in Paris, France"; stamp motive shows a detail of the painting "Sement de La Fayette à la Fête de la Fédération" (French for "The Oath of Allegiance sworn by Lafayette") (meant is Marie-Joseph du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (1754-1838, also "Gilbert Motier...", shortly "Lafayette"), General in France and in America during the American Revolution and leader of the French National Guard during the revolution); This event "Sworn of the "Oath of Allegiance" to the French constitution by Lafayette took place on the afternoon of the on the "Champs de Mars" before Paris during the "Fête de la Fédération". The event took place after a full Latin Mass. The oath was executed on the altar erected for the mass. The priest beside the altar shall be Talleyrand (1754-1838), diplomate and former Priest and now as representant of the "Third Estate" in the new formed "National Assembly".
