Description Stamp of Nicaragua; 1989; commemorative stamp stamp of the issue "200th Anniversary of the French Revolution - International stamp exhibition 'PHILEXFRANCE '89' in Paris, France"; stamp motive shows a detail of an engraving (probably copper engraving) of the "Procession of the Estates General" at Versailles on the as last grande ceremony of the so-called "Ancient Regime" in France. This event marks the begin of the French revolution, the original engraving by an unknown artist is contemprary located in the "Musée de la Revolution française" in Vizille (Département Isére, France).; The exhibition "PHILEXFRANCE '89" took place in the time from 7 July 1989 until 17 July 1989

Note:
This engraving illustrates the event at Versaille on as last great public ceremony of the "Ancient Regime". This "Procession of the Estates General" (French: "Etats Generaux de 1789") was held in the traditional kind of a religious procession at the fields before Verailles. The event was opened by hour-long speeches from King Louis XVI, the then finance minister, Jacques Necker, and the then "Keeper of the Seals", Charles de Paule de Barentin...etc. In his speech declared among others the finance minister that the financial deficite of the Kingdom of France would be 56 millions. And he announced new taxes which would be enough to make up this deficite. But the Commoners, who were only too aware of the excavations of France, were deeply dissatisfied with such speeches and events and decide to set an end to the such. The French Revolution began...
