JPEG file comment | This summer, scientists from several U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories converged on the Barrow Environmental Observatory, 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle to conduct research on a project called the Next-Generation Ecosystem Experiment (NGEE-Arctic). The Department of Energy-sponsored project seeks to improve climate model predictions through an advanced understanding of coupled processes in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems. It addresses this challenge by quantifying the physical, chemical, and biological behavior of terrestrial ecosystems in Alaska.
NGEE-Arctic is a collaboration among scientists and engineers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Berkeley Lab, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. These photos show scientists from Argonne National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Berkeley Lab. |
