The thick line shows the direction to the burst, and dark patches within it represent the dust layers responsible for producing the X-ray rings. The smallest ring corresponds to the most distant dust, located about 61,000 light-years away from the Sun and 4,600 light-years above the galaxy's midplane.Credit: NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center |
