Français : Sur son orbite héliocentrique, le télescope spatial Kepler est soumis principalement à la pression de rayonnement c'est-à-dire la poussée exercée par les photons. A la suite de la panne des roues de réaction, Kepler ne pouvant plus maintenir son orientation que dans deux dimensions, les ingénieurs ont imaginé d'utiliser cette poussée des photons pour maintenir le pointage du télescope spatial. Pour subir une poussée symétrique de la part de ces particules tout en maintenant le télescope pointé vers une portion du ciel fixe, l'axe du télescope est positionné de manière à être parallèle à son plan orbital. Pour que le Soleil ne pénètre pas dans l'ouverture du télescope, son orientation est modifiée tous les 83,5 jours ce qui impose à chaque fois un changement de la région de l'espace étudiée. |
