Description

The good: Feels more secure than the Sportworks racks on the fronts of buses. I've never used a Trilogy so I can't compare it to those. Also, I don't have to take my trunk pack off. I probably should though. It looks bulged because a water bottle and zoom lens are in there, both of which are fairly heavy. It was designed for weight to be down, not back.

The OK: Maneuvering the bike without hitting people can be tricky. I haven't yet mastered the Portland-style "wheel your bike on the car vertically" maneuver. Also, the handlebars stick out. My bike isn't terribly tall, and the handlebars are as far down in the stem as they can go (I don't know if they even can move up) but it still makes the aisle a little bit narrower. Compared to the other parts of the LRV, this isn't an extremely high traffic area, but definitely an important area.

The bad: Due to its vertical nature, I have to find a new spot for my U-lock when I put my bike on the hook. Normally I slip it into my rear rack so that the long bars of the U-lock are parallel to the support shafts of my rack. The locking portion of the lock is thick enough to make it so the lock rests in the channel on the side of my rack. It's an excellent solution for all times the bike is flat, but when I go vertical I have to move it somewhere else. The position it is in here is very annoying when I start riding the bike, as it constantly hits my legs while pedaling.

The cool thing about my bike, as some of you may have noticed, is that it has no chain. No derailleurs either. And how do I have 7 speeds you ask? It's a shaft drive! Yep, a drive shaft just like a car. Coupled with an internal hub, you get an almost zero maintenance and very water friendly bike.
