English: English Electric Canberra, a first-generation jet-powered light bomber, in the National Museum of Flight in East Fortune, East Lothian, Scotland.
The aircraft this section came from, VX185, flew the fastest return crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in 1952 taking ten hours between departure and arrival in Ireland. The section was donated by the Science Museum in 1997.
Nederlands: English Electric Canberra was de eerste middelzware bommenwerper met straalaandrijving van de Royal Air Force. Het toestel brak vele records en deed wereldwijd dienst bij vele luchtmachten.
Het toestel waarvan deze romp komt, VX185, vloog het snelste heen en weer over de oceaan in 1952. Dit gedeelte werd door het Science Museum aan het National Museum geschonken. |
