Summary[edit]
DescriptionMuseo di Via Tasso - kitchen.jpg |
English: This kitchen was turned into a cell -- the appliances, apart from the sink, were taken out, and the window was bricked up by the SS. A prisoner, Col. Montezemolo, was kept here in pitch blackness for three months and brutally tortured before being dragged, more dead than alive, to the Ardeatine Caves for the group massacre. The window has been partially unbricked: the sign says "window walled up by the SS".
I find it quite creepy that the stove hood is still there, a faint ghost of the room's original purpose, something familiar and even reassuring which underscores the horror of the subsequent use of the room. |
