Description
Italiano: L'affresco di Io, Argo ed Hermes, rinvenuto nell'Ekklesisterion del Tempio di Iside a Pompei, è esposto nel Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (inv. 9548) (cat. 1.69). Alla presenza di Io seduta (con piccole corna che alludono alla sua trasformazione in giovenca da parte della gelosa Hera), Hermes offre una siringa all'onniveggente Argo per distrarlo, essendo lui incaricato di vegliare continuamente su Io per impedirle di essere amata da Zeus. Invece Io verrà raggiunta da Zeus sotto forma di toro quando Hermes riuscirà a far addormentare Argo e quindi a decapitarlo. Hera allora trasformerà Argo in un pavone dai cento occhi.
