Summary[edit]

Description
English: it's another "The Terrys of Togtown" vignette.
  • Text: Mrs. Terry had been in Togtown about three weeks before I went to see her. I didn't want her to think I was running after her. I was surprised to hear her call Mr. Terry Ted. His name is Theodore, and I never did like nicknames. I expected to find her in a blue silk wrapper. I wondered how she dressed mornings; that was one reason I ran in in the 'forenoon. But, goodness! she had on a navy-blue brilliantine. The skirt wasn't much below her ankles and the waist buttoned down the front and had short sleeves with a band of ecru lace like the collar. Down on the band around one of the sleeves was a little bit of embroidery. It was in red silk and it made me think of what Martha had said about the rain coat collar and the sleeve at church. I can't see very well, but I think it was an embroidered design or something. It certainly looks aristocratic, having it on everything, the way she does. She was dusting a vase when I went into the parlor. She put it right away and talked real interestingly about me and Martha and how good it was of me to come. I meant to find out something about her folks, but it was time to go before I got through telling her about the town folks, so I left the church folks till another time. As I went out I saw Mary Malin's card lying on the table. I must tell Martha not to forget to leave a card on the hall table, on the silver platter, even if Mrs. Terry is at home. I wouldn't have Martha copy after Mary, but I suppose Mary knows about such things.
