Summary[edit]

Description
English: Mr. Thomas Tapping was born in England in 1814. By the mid 1850s, he and his wife Keziah and their first three children emigrated to Canada. In 1865 they settled on a crown grant of 96 acres along what is now Highway 41 on the north side of the present Bon Echo Park. Here, he and his growing family farmed, supplying produce to local lumbering camps.

In 1866 he was the postmaster of the Hardinge post office, a small facility on his own property. At the time it opened it was the most northernly post office in the County. A well respected man, he became the first Reeve of Barrie Township, a position he held for many years. Mr. Tapping retired as postmaster in 1900, just two years before his death. He is buried in the Flinton Cemetery. Source: Reprint from the 2008 CDHS Heritage Calendar.
