English: Haig and Clemenceau, Cambrai, France, October 1918. Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) standing to the left of the French Prime Minister, Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929) who is apparently talking with a couple of local men and a priest who has his back to the camera. Some war damage can be seen on the buildings in the background. Cambrai had been recaptured by the Allies on 9 October 1918 as part of the Allied advance which led to the end of the war. |
