Description

Photograph of Moses Humberstone.

This is an extract from a photograph which includes miner and trade unionist Herbert Smith (1862-1938), Mayor of Barnsley 1932. He became president of the Miners' Federation of Great Britain (MFGB) in 1922.

The caption to the complete photograph says, "Among those present at the opening of the Barnsley Beckett Hospital extension, yesterday, were (left to right): the Mayor of Sheffield (Alderman M. Humberstone), the Mayor of Barnsley (Councillor J. Broley), Mr Herbert Smith, the Duke of Northumberland, and Viscount Allendale."
