Summary[edit]

Description
English: Mt. Tautuapae (789 m) seen from across the Opunohu Valley, Moorea, French Polynesia. Original field note by the author: Foreground shrubs are purau or wild hibiscus, which is indigenous. Usually a coastal plant in the rest of the Pacific, on high islands of French Polynesia it creeps up the mountainsides and is very difficult to clear because of its numerous near-horizontal, vine-like branches. However, its inner bark is still used extensively for fashioning dancing skirts.
