Data de Inauguração: 1935 Promotor: Comissão Municipal da Guarda Materiais: Granito e bronze Dimensões: Pedestal: 0,90m x 3,40 m; Estátua: 1,00 m x 2, 35 m Descrição/ Tema: Monumento de caracter modernista de inspiração clássica, com algum movimento a apontar para o naturalismo. Constituído por uma estátua feminina (alegoria à poesia) em bronze de pé, com vestes largas exibindo uma cercadura em baixo-relevo, tem a mão esquerda elevada segurando flores como se estivesse a lança-las e na direita ampara uma cítara que sai da base na vertical. Assenta sobre um alto pedestal em pedra, que na face frontal apresenta um medalhão em bronze em médio-relevo representando o busto do poeta Augusto Gil. Historial: O monumento inaugurado em 1935 (FERREIRA, 2005), homenageia o poeta Augusto César Ferreira Gil (1873-1929), natural do Porto. Estudou inicialmente na Guarda de onde os pais eram naturais e licenciou-se em direito na Universidade de Coimbra. Exerceu advocacia em Lisboa, exercendo posteriormente o cargo de Director-Geral da Escola de Belas-Artes. Entre a sua obra poética contam-se, “Musa Cérula”, “Versos”, “Luar de Janeiro”, “O Canto da Cigarra”, “Sombra de Fumo” “Alba Plena”, “O Craveiro da Janela”, “Avena Rústica” e “Rosas desta Manhã”.
