Description
Deutsch: Grabmal in Kupang in Westtimor, Niederländisch-Indien, das Nicolas Baudin (1754–1803) dem an einer Infektion des Verdauungstrakts verstorbenen Chefgärtner seiner Australien-Expedition Anselm Riedle, französisch Anselme Riedlé (1775–21. Oktober 1801) aus Irsee im Allgäu errichten ließ. Dessen Grab enthielt auch die sterblichen Überreste des 1789 in Kupang verstorbenen englischen Botanikers David Nelson. Die Inschrift lautete gemäß Baudins Reisetagebuch: "Ici repose Anselme Riedlé d’Ausbourg, âgé de trente-cinq ans, jardinier en chef de l’expédition de découvertes ordonnée par le Premier Consul Bonaparte, l’an IX. Son zèle, son activité, ses travaux furent la cause de sa mort le 29 vendémiaire an X. Qui que vous soyez, respectez son tombeau et le monument qui doit transmettre son nom à la postérité ainsi que celui de David."
