Document BANQ / Montreal Map: Paul-Jourdin dit Labrosse XVIIIè siècle avec additions de E. Z. Massicotte (1867-1947). Au XVIIIè siècle, une seule porte dans le mur des Fortifications ouvre vers le Nord, la porte Saint-Laurent. On doit alors franchir le ruisseau Saint-Martin pour atteindre le chemin conduisant au faubourg Saint-Laurent. Dès 1731, des champs cultivés longent le chemin Saint-Laurent. Des colons se sont établis à la hauteur de la rue de La Gauchetière. Une de ces terres, le "Près de Ville", illustre par son nom coloré le contexte d'alors: au pied des Fortifications, la campagne approvisionne les citadins. Emplacement actuel du Quartier chinois, Palais des Congrès traversé par le trajet de l'autoroute Ville-Marie. Source texte: Pignon sur rue, Les Quartiers de Montréal. François-Marie Marchand de Lignery (1703-1759), né à Montréal. Officier dans les troupes de la Marine. Mariage en 1738, à Montréal, avec Marie-Thérèse, fille de Daniel Migeon de La Gauchetière. Curieusement, lorsque cette carte fut publiée, en 1761, François-Marie Marchand de Lignery était déjà mort...son nom a donc subsisté puisqu'il y est mentionné. Source: biographie.ca |
