These machmes are now being builtentirely by native mechanics at the aviation school and shops of thecapital, and several improvements are reported to have been devisedby the constructors. An abundant supply of electric energy from theNecaxa Falls, which were first developed about 15 years ago, fur-nishes the power for the citys lighting, tramways, etc. Addi-tional improvements are expected to generate 200,000 horsepower,and Mexico City as well as other neighboring communities will doubt-less respond more freely to the call of the factory. A score or more of public and private hospitals are in operation inthe capital city, and a number of these institutions date from thecolonial period. The General Hospital, completed in 1905, is of verymodern construction and equipment. It has 28 or more pavilionsand can accommodate nearly 1,000 patients.
