English: A meter bridge, also known as a slide wire bridge, is a simple and effective instrument used for measuring electrical resistance in a circuit. It consists of a one-meter-long wire mounted on a wooden or metallic base. The wire is usually made of a material with high electrical conductivity, such as constantan.

The meter bridge operates on the principle of a Wheatstone bridge, which balances the unknown resistance with a known resistance to determine the unknown resistance value. The bridge has a one-meter-long wire with a sliding jockey that can be moved along its length. A galvanometer is connected across the wire, and a known resistance is connected in series with the unknown resistance.

By adjusting the position of the sliding jockey along the wire, the bridge is balanced when the galvanometer shows zero deflection. At this point, the ratio of the lengths of the wire on either side of the jockey is proportional to the ratio of the unknown resistance to the known resistance. This allows for the calculation of the unknown resistance based on the length of wire on either side of the jockey.
