| Description |
English: Mepal road bridge. Built in 1984, this bridge carries the A142 across the Old Bedford River and the Ouse Washes. It replaced a viaduct which was constructed in 1930. Before that time, a lower-level roadway passed through the village of Mepal, but was often flooded, especially in winter. Occasionally, this road bridge is the only means of crossing the Ouse Washes between Downham Market and Earith, as lesser crossings at Sutton Gault 355332 and Welney 1170158 are often flooded. |
