Description
English: The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron is a private sailing club which was formed in 1862. This portrait depicts 18 men standing in front of the entrance porch to the Squadron's main building in Kirribilli.

Various well-known yachting personalities are pictured with Alexis and Frank Albert (far left), David Carment (with white beard) and David Shallard Carment (fifth from right wearing RSYS uniform). Standing to the right of David Shallard in civilian attire is Judge Alfred Paxton Backhouse.
This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars. The photos in the collection were taken mainly in Sydney and Newcastle during the first half of the 20th century.
