Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Memorial, Murder Scene & Former Road at Hanslope Closeby to the road junction a few hundred metres to the south of Hanslope village is a small wood, North Spinney, shown in this view. The former driveway to Squire Edward Watts' country mansion is behind camera - the latter building is now absorbed within the FCO technical centre at Hanslope Park. The approach road to the driveway used to pass through the wood at this point. Edward and his wife returned this way, towards camera, from church on the fateful day and was shot by his Head Gamekeeper, William Farrow, who then turned his gun on himself. The memorial shown in this view records that "Squire Watts was murdered here on 21st July 1912". Edward's widow Sophia subsequently arranged for the road through this location to be diverted, resulting in the present day arrangement of the nearby road junction.
