Title
Medieval Decorated Biconical Lead Spindle Whorl
Description
English: A complete biconical lead spindle whorl, possibly Medieval in date. Ms J. Cassidy states in PAS record NARC-506AE1 that "Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period. However most are typically dated to the Medieval period". Both sides of this spindle whorl have been decorated with repeated lines and pellets in relief, though one side is partially blurred due to damage to the surface of the artefact. This spindle whorl weighs 52.2g, has a diameter of 32.27mm and a thickness or height of 14.14mm. A vertical cylindrical hole is present through the centre of the spindle whorl. This perforation has a diameter of 9.40mm.

A search on the PAS database for 'lead' 'spindle whorl' produces records of lots of similarly decorated spindle whorls including records: NARC-506AE1, LIN-13B103, DUR-29A8B8.
