Title
Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Incomplete medieval copper alloy buckle, pin missing. On the annular frame there is a pin constriction and a pair of recesses into which a separate narrow bar is set at right angles to the pin alignment. A sheet plate, now badly distorted and incomplete, is folded over the bar. Its rear part is narrowed and broken across a rivet hole. The front part is pierced by two rivet holes, of which that nearest to the inside edge would have held a rivet driven through the strap only. Without the plate this object may have been indentified as a disc-on-pin brooch (Williams and Geake 2005, 347). External diameter of frame 22.5mm, interior diameter 16.5mm. Plate length approximately 40mm, width 14mm. 15th century.
