Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Incomplete bent and broken medieval copper alloy flat-sectioned rectangular or square buckle frame with a central bar, part of one side and the outside edge missing, and a rabbet at both surviving corners and rectangular cut-out at the centre of both sides. Pin missing. The extant outside edge has a longitudinal wavy line of rocker arm running between short straight lines of the same. Surviving length 28mm. Width 30mm. 1.5mm - 2mm thick. The decoration and form is different from, but related to, examples shown in Egan and Pritchard 1991, no. 447 (from a context of c.1350 - c.1400), Whitehead 2003 no. 482 and Fingerlin 1971, Abb. 301 (which was dated to c.1450 -c.1500). 15th century.
