Title
Medieval : Harness pendant
Description
English: A cast shield shaped (copper-alloy) harness pendant.

The pendant consists of a shield shaped plate of copper-alloy. The plate is undecorated on both sides. The suspension loop remains intact and is joined to the suspension hanger. The hanger comprises a double lugged attachment, joined to the loop by an iron pin. The loop and the hanger together form a hinge and the iron pin joining the two together can still be seen. The reverse is also heavily corroded and worn. The metal is a patchy mid brownish-green colour.

The corrosion has eaten away much of the original surface. This type of harness pendant date to the medieval period and are circa 12th – 14th century in date. Parallel can be seen in Ashley, 2001, p11-13.
