Title
Medieval : Finger ring
Description
English: Treasure case No : 2010 T4.

A large silver-gilt finger ring, probably worn by a man, possibly over a glove. The ring has a circular hoop, which has been distorted slightly out of shape. The hoop has a rectangular section; it is largely undecorated, until the shoulders. The shoulders are slightly broader than the rest of the hoop and depict a series of incised, linear markings. Two of the markings resemble the letter A, while the other markings appear more random but possibly form cross-hatching. The bezel then rises about the shoulder to form a square shape, with rounded corners. It too is decorated with incised markings, this time in the form a back to front Y. The traces of gilding can mainly be seen around the bezel and the shoulders and not on the rest of the hoop. The internal surface of the hoop is completely undecorated.

Discussion:
This finger ring date to the 13th - 14th Century, therefore in terms of age and as the object comprises a minimum of 10% precious metal contain it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
