Medieval : Finger ring
Description
English: Medieval silver stirrup finger-ring Date: 13th - 14th Century Description: A fragment of a silver stirrup finger-ring. All that remains is the bezel and shoulders. The breaks on either side occur after the shoulders, the breaks are worn. The shoulders each feature a slightly raised square plate, decorated with an incised cross. There is an incised indented line across the junction of where the shoulders meet the bezel. The bezel has the characteristic stirrup shape, which rises up. The terminal of the bezel is decorated with a similar flat raised square plate, decorated with an incised cross. The bezel edges are worn. The silver appears to have been filed. There is no internal decoration.

In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. A similar finger ring can be seen in the Treasure Annual Report 2004, p104, Fig: 180 (Treasure case 2004 T182). This is a commonly reported type of finger-ring.
