Description |
English: A fragment of medieval copper-alloy strip mount, probably from a box or casket, with a stylised relief animal head at one end and an incomplete attachment hole at the other.
Beverly Nenk of the British Museum writes: 'A fragment of a medieval silver terminal or mount, or possibly a pendant cross. Of D-shaped section, with raised decoration at one end. Broken off at the other end, possibly at the site of a pierced hole.' Compare copper-alloy examples recorded on the PAS database: LIN-36C4A2, IOW-077CF0, SWYOR-EBE580, SF-A69545, SF-828566, SWYOR-6A1392, LIN-71E087. An excavated example was found in a context of 1200-1400 at Norwich (Margeson 1993, no. 473). |
