Title
Medieval mount: Mount
Description
English: A fragment of a cast copper alloy strap fitting for a sword belt, dating to the Post-Medieval period. The fragment consists of the lower part of a shield-shaped plate with concaved sides and a rounded base with the stub of a hook projecting from the centre. The front face of the plate is decorated with a symmetrical foliage design in moulded relief. The design vaguely resembles leaves of the vine. The reverse is plain and undecorated. This type of fitting would have been attached to a scabbard strap. Read (2008: 219, no. 790) illustrates a similar mount which he dates to the 16th or 17th century AD.
