English: The U.S. Army inducts former Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins and Army Spc. 4 Donald P. Sloat into the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes, Sept. 16, 2014. The Pentagon ceremony adds their names to the distinguished roster in the Hall of Heroes, the Defense Department's permanent display of record for all recipients of the Medal of Honor. Pictured from left to right are: Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins, Spc. 4 Donald P. Sloat's brother Dr. William Sloat, and Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Daniel B. Allyn. Retired U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins was awarded the Medal of Honor Sept. 15, 2014, for actions during a battle at Camp A Shau, South Vietnam, March 9-12, 1966. Then-Sgt. 1st Class Adkins was assigned to Detachment A-102, 5th Special Forces Group at the time of the action. U.S. Army Spc. 4 Donald P. Sloat was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor Sept. 15, 2014, for actions during a combat patrol near Hawk Hill Fire Base, South Vietnam, Jan. 17, 1970.
