Title
English: McVay Mill employees, August 10, 1898
Description
English: In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Ballard was a center for the lumber and shingle industries. This photo, taken on August 10, 1898, shows the employees of the McVay Mill in Ballard. The young boys probably work at the mill too. The men in the foreground hold bundles of shingles from the mill. The man at the far right end of the middle row is missing a finger. This happened often to the men who cut shingles.
