Description
Ein Jahr nach seinem ersten Besuch in Holland richtete sich Max Liebermann 1876 ein Atelier im Städtischen Waisenhaus von Amsterdam ein. Er war fasziniert von den klaren leuchtenden Farben der Uniformen der Waisenmädchen. Mehrfach setzte er sie ins Bild. Hier handelt es sich um eine von mehreren Vorstudien, die der berühmten »Freistunde« im Frankfurter Städel Museum voraus gingen.
