Summary

[edit]
Description
English: After his death in 1925 Matt Talbot was buried in an unmarked grave in the paupers’ section of Glasnevin cemetery. However, the story of the chains found on his body at death spread and combined with other anecdotes from people who knew him, and a following slowly grew. Other members his fraternal sodality, the Immaculate Conception Sodality (based at St. Francis Xavier's Church in Gardiner Street) along with his sister Mary Andrews worked at increasing his notoriety. Before his first anniversary his remains were moved to the vault where Fr. Gentili was buried. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloysius_Gentili Aloysius Gentili (1801 – 1848) was an Italian missionary of the Rosminian Order and close working colleague of Cardinal John Newman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Henry_Newman In 1931, with the decision by the Archbishop of Dublin to open an inquiry into the claims of holiness Matt Talbot’s remains was awarded its own grave. Upon the relocation of his remains in 1972 to a dedicated tomb in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Sean McDermott Street, the grave stone was also relocated.
