Description

NPS/Patrick Myers

With its distinctive reddish glow, Mars continues to be visible over Great Sand Dunes this winter. Martian dunes are very similar to Great Sand Dunes, prompting NASA scientists to engage in ongoing study of our dunes here in Colorado. And, NASA's newest mission, InSight, just landed on the red planet two weeks ago to capture new images and study the subsurface. Expect the unexpected at Great Sand Dunes!

This image was captured using two exposures - one of the dune in evening light, and another of Mars above it.
