Summary

[edit]

Image: These are triangular "monoliths" on Mars in images released during a press conference on May 8, 2001. Date of image is not known. Location on Mars is not known. Images by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, produced by the Mars Global Surveyor.

According to the conference, (link in sources below) the triangular monoliths fall into the category of "infastructure."

Sources: YouTube video of press conference on May 8, 2001. In the video, it is said that all images shown can be found at this link Cydonia Region, but they are not.

I believe the fact the link is mentioned in the video to be from NASA's JPL, and the fact that the images were taken by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor, these qualify as Public Domain under NASA's rules.
