English: Portrait of Maria Carolina of Austria (1752-1814), Queen of Naples
Italiano: Dipinto entro cornice lignea ovale dorata liscia. Ritrae la regina Maria Carolina seduta su poltrona con braccioli. Indossa un abito decorato lungo i bordi e al centro da decori a tralci di sambuco e bordo in pizzo sull'ampia scollatura. Alle orecchie porta pendenti di perle, presenti anche nel diadema tra i capelli. Dal collo pende un medaglione, incorniciato da un filo di perle, con l'effigie del marito Ferdinando IV. Sullo sfondo a destra compare la base di una colonna e a sinistra la corona reale.

Notes Notizie storico-critiche: "Per confronti si rimanda ad una coppia di ritratti della regina e del consorte Ferdinando IV, attribuiti ad Antonio Manno con datazione agli anni 1788-89, pubblicati da Massimo Pisani in "Ritratti napoletani dal Cinquecento all'Ottocento", Napoli, 1996, pp. 124-125. Sia nell'opera del pittore siciliano sia in quella dell'anonimo autore della tela in esame la regina è raffigurata in età avanzata con una certa attenzione per i caratteri somatici illustrati senza idealizzazioni. La genericità o l'errata identificazione dei personaggi ritratti desunte dagli inventari storici non permettono una sicura identificazione della tela in esame, la cui catena inventariale risulta incompleta."
