| Description |
A second go at producing a pinboard map of photos in a group pool (in this case, <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/photographyguidetoscotland/">Photography Guide to Scotland</a>, which is a geotag-only group). Photo locations are overlaid on an Openstreetmap export. The Flickr API was used to collect photo locations using a python script. The map was exported from <a href="http://www.openstreetmap.org/" rel="nofollow">Openstreetmap</a> as a PNG. The exported map uses the Mercator projection, so it's not possible to simply plot points directly given their lat/lon coordinates, they need to be converted to the Mercator projection. The <a href="http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/basemap/doc/html/users/index.html" rel="nofollow">Basemap library</a> was used to perform the Mercator projection and draw a scatterplot on a white background. This was then merged in Photoshop with the exported map; this only needed to have the two layers matched in size, with the scatterplot overlaid using 'darken' mode. |
