Title
English: Map of Seattle, ca. 1912
Description
English: Caption on image: Description - The areas in and about Seattle suitable for industrial and commercial purposes are indicated on the map by shading lines in hatching. For the information of those not familiar with Seattle's topography, the City for the most part is built on hills and ridges the crests of which attain elevations of from 100 to 500 feet. The shaded portions are level valley and shorelands, the flat low-lying position of which facilitates the construction of railway and other transportation facilities necessary to industrial development. These topographical features obviously are advantageous in that there results a natural separation between residence and industrial districts, avoiding the unpleasant complications that occur in comparatively level cities. Note - The potential industrial lands shown on this map have a total area of approximately Eighteen Thousand Acres. It will be noted that Lake Washington canal which connects the lakes with Puget Sound, makes available an inner fresh water harbor with approximately 100 miles of shore line. There is a total of approximately 150 miles of water frontage shown on the map of which about 100 miles is available for commercial and industrial purposes.
